Africa so far have a total of 7,080 confirmed cases of coronavirus.
The head of intensive care unit at the Cochin Hospital, Professor Jean-Paul Mira early today on a live television made a comment on the potential BCG vaccine which before now was used as a treatment against tuberculosis
The professor had suggested the vaccine be used on Africans just as some AIDS studies where carried out on prostitute.

In his words the professor said “If I can be provocative, shouldn’t we do this study in Africa where there are no masks, no treatment, no resuscitation? The same as for some AIDS studies where prostitutes try things because we know they’re unprotected”
This statement have gotten a lot of backlash on the French professor, some African media house referring to him as the “colonialist Professor”.
Among the critic are African world renowned footballers Samuel Eto’o and Didier Drogba
Former Barcelona and Cameroon striker Eto’o hit out at the comments.
He wrote on Instagram: ‘you are just SH*T. Africa isn’t yours to play with.’
Ex-Chelsea and Ivory Coast forward Drogba accused the doctors of treating people like guinea pigs and labelled the remarks as ‘racist’.
He wrote on Twitter: ‘It is inconceivable that we continue to accept this. I strongly denounce these serious, racist and contemptuous remarks!
‘Help us save lives in Africa and stop the spread of this virus which is destabilizing the whole world, instead of considering us as guinea pigs. It is absurd!
‘African leaders have a responsibility to protect people from these heinous plots.’
Another former Chelsea striker, Demba Ba, who played for Senegal, also criticized the comments.
He wrote on Twitter: ‘Welcome to the West, where white people believe themselves to be so superior that racism and stupidity become commonplace. TIME TO RISE.’
Eto’o commented on Ba’s post, saying: ‘Sons of bitches’.

Hope, Africans will rise and love ourselves just as these two greats are doing. Bravo

These comments coming from the professor are rather unfortunate. There should be a global consensus in the fight against this pandemic

This is the first news I am getting of the Covid19 situ in Africa. Thanks for sharing. Very disappointed that French professors had suggested using Africa as a testing ground; and Very encouraged to see that Strong responses have come in. Hearty Kudos to Mr. Drogba, (who is the only footballer I know in this list!), and to All of them, of course. Regards.
