1/Confirmation this morning that the Delta variant of the #SARSCoV2 virus has been detected in Ghana.
Genomic sequencing by @WACCBIP_UG/@YemaachiBio identified this variant of concern in 2 international air passengers who recently arrived in the country.

Dear UN Family,
I am writing to call for the STRICT adherence to public health prevention protocols for COVID 19.
We have just recorded the first case of COVID 19 (with symptoms) in a fully-vaccinated staff member in the UN in Ghana (the person is stable and recovering).
With rising infections in many countries and new variants appearing, we should be reminded that vaccinations do NOT provide a 100% guarantee against infection or symptoms. Most COVID infections are contracted from close family, friends and work colleagues. We must therefore maintain COVID prevention protocols in ALL settings please. I am calling on all staff to be leaders in the fight against COVID 19 in the UN and in Ghana.
